Director of Conflicts of Interest and Commitment Disclosures 

Alan Fellers is the Director of Conflicts of Interest and Commitment Disclosures at Virginia Tech. Alan joined the office in 2026. Reporting to the Vice President of Audit, Risk, and Compliance and Chief Risk Officer, Alan is the principal leader for the university’s oversee and manage Virginia Tech's Conflict of Interest (COI) and Conflict of Commitment (COC) programs.

In his role as director of Conflicts of Interest and Commitment Disclosures, Fellers will lead and manage the university’s Conflict of Interest and Commitment (COI-C) programs. He will provide strategic direction and operational oversight to ensure compliance with federal, state, and university requirements; review and assess disclosures; develop and monitor management plans for identified conflicts; and oversee the university’s electronic disclosure systems. He will also collaborate closely with partners across the institution, including Scholarly Integrity & Research Compliance, Research Security, Human Resources, Procurement, and the Office of General Counsel, to support a coordinated and consistent approach to risk mitigation and ethical standards.

Alan began his education with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Columbia College and a Master of Business Administration from Webster University in St. Louis.  Alan’s work experience spans stops at mental health providers and, previous to starting at Virginia Tech, as the Director of Conflict of Interest Programs at Washington University in St. Louis.
